The Constitutional Court is located in Jae dong 83, Gahoe-ro, Jong-ro gu, Seoul (5,804 p¡¯yong of gross area, 1,070 p¡¯yong of architectural area, 5,829 p¡¯yong of entire surface) with one floor underground and five above. This stone building won a prize at the 2nd Korea Architectural Culture Award for its artistic and functional features as well as the combination of modern sense and traditional style. The dome installed at the rooftop of the Constitutional Council represents the highest standard of the Constitutional Law. Three horizontal lines on the top of the building symbolize the equality and three divided parts on the top of the central entrance represent balance of powers. For the cross sectional plan, the height of the five-story courthouse was lowered as much as possible in accommodation of the surrounding traditional housing preservation district.
