Delegation of Italian Constitutional Court comes to Korea

□ President Giorgio Lattanzi and delegation of the Constitutional Court of Italy are visiting Korea from September 4 to 8, 2019.

□ The Italian delegation invited by the Constitutional Court of Korea comprises President Lattanzi, Judge Giovanni Amoroso, Secretary General Carlo Visconti and Deputy Secretary General Umberto Zingales.

□ During the visit, the Italian delegation is set to have a meeting between President Lattanzi and President Namseok Yoo, give a special lecture to present development of the Italian constitutional adjudication and have a meeting with justices of Korea.

Judge Amoroso will give a lecture titled ‘Constitutional Decision: theoretical premise and evolutionary development’ at 2:30 pm on September 5 at the courthouse.

The Italian delegation and Justices of Korea will have an in-depth talk about the type and effect of the final decisions of the constitutional review as well as the case management process with focus on major cases of the Constitutional Court of Italy on September 6.

□ With history of more than 60 years, the Italian Court has played an active role in the political environment that is similar to that of Korea, which is not so well-known in the country. Their visit to Korea will be an opportunity to further promote understanding on the constitutional adjudication systems of both countries and enhance cooperation between the two courts.

□ President Lattanzi became a judge in 1964. He served as a deputy prosecutor general and presiding judge of the Sixth Criminal Division of the Supreme Court before his appointment to the Constitutional Court in November 2010. He was sworn in as the President of the Court in March 2018. He took initiatives in amending the criminal procedure act of Italy and taught it in a university with an expertise about it.
